Mets Vs Marlins Baseball Game April 2025

MIAMI, FL — The New York Mets are looking to bounce back in a crucial rubber match against the Miami Marlins on Wednesday afternoon at loanDepot Park. After falling to the Marlins 4-2 on Tuesday, the Mets (2-3) face a pivotal game to even their record and gain momentum as the season progresses.

In their previous outing, the Mets struggled at the plate, managing only five hits and going 1-for-5 with runners in scoring position. Francisco Lindor recorded two errors in the field, contributing to two unearned runs that proved costly to the Mets’ chances. Starting pitcher Kodai Senga allowed four runs (two earned) while striking out eight in his first start of the season.

“We need to clean up the defense and capitalize on scoring opportunities if we want to turn this around,” said Lindor, who welcomed his third child earlier this week. “Every game counts, especially early in the season.”

Today’s starting pitcher for the Mets, Clay Holmes (0-1, 3.86 ERA), aims to improve on his Opening Day performance, where he allowed three runs (two earned) over 4 2/3 innings against the Houston Astros. Holmes’s struggles were evident as he reached base 12 times by the Astros during his first two turns through the batting order.

Holmes faces Miami’s Connor Gillispie (0-1, 5.40 ERA), who also had a rocky start during his first outing against the Pittsburgh Pirates, giving up four runs (three earned) in five innings.

“Every game is a new challenge,” Holmes stated prior to the game. “I’m looking to set the tone today and help my team get back on the right track.”

Meanwhile, the Mets’ offense hopes to increase productivity, especially from key players like Brandon Nimmo, who has shown power by homering in back-to-back games. Nimmo is 3-for-8 in the series, with three RBIs. “When we hit the ball hard, we need those outs to turn into hits,” Nimmo remarked, referencing several hard-hit balls that resulted in outs in their recent games.

The Mets are preparing for their final trip of the season to Miami, as the MLB’s schedule format includes more inter-division matchups. Fan support has been strong at loanDepot Park, with many Mets supporters applauding the team in its recent endeavours. “We want to give our fans something to cheer about today,” said manager Buck Showalter.

The first pitch is scheduled for 4:40 PM EDT, and fans can catch the game live on SNY and Audacy Radio.
