Mexico Football Goalkeeper Controversy

Ciudad de México, México – The Mexican Football Federation (FMF) has cleared goalkeeper Nahuel Guzmán of Tigres UANL following his controversial expulsion during a match against Necaxa. The decision came after an investigation was launched in response to a formal request from Tigres due to allegations that Guzmán was inciting rival fans.

The FMF’s Disciplinary Commission stated, “After receiving the investigation request submitted by Tigres UANL, and once the inquiry was completed, with videos analyzed and related evidence assessed, we find that the request is justified.” The expulsion occurred at the conclusion of the tightly contested match, which resulted in Tigres losing.

Former Tigres coach Veljko Paunovic defended Guzmán, asserting that the player approached fans to offer gloves rather than taunt rival supporters. “From what I understood, he saw three of our fans among the Necaxa crowd. I don’t want to jump to conclusions; we are investigating the incident as there may be grounds for an appeal. It isn’t right for Nahuel Guzmán to be treated this way; he has been a pivotal player for us,” Paunovic stated.

In addition to the Guzmán case, the FMF confirmed an illegal lineup issue regarding the Toluca club during their match against Club América. As a result, the 3-0 victory awarded to América stands. “We inform that after an analysis of the evidence and reports from the central referee and match officials, we confirmed the illegal alignment by Toluca in the game against América, in violation of Article 25, paragraphs three and four of the Liga MX Competition Regulations,” the FMF reported.
