Miami Dolphins Fire Coaches Crossman and Welker After 2024 Season
The Miami Dolphins have announced the departure of special teams coordinator Danny Crossman and wide receivers coach/pass game specialist Wes Welker following the conclusion of the 2024 NFL season. The decision was confirmed by head coach Mike McDaniel on Friday, January 10, 2025.
“I am grateful for Danny’s contributions and dedication to the Dolphins over the course of many seasons, as well as the numerous ways he helped me as a head coach,” McDaniel said in a statement. “I also want to thank Wes for his investment here. This was not a decision I came to lightly, but as I have evaluated the season and areas where we must improve, I believe that change is needed and am motivated to do what is best for the team as we move forward.”
Crossman, who joined the Dolphins in 2019 under former head coach Brian Flores, had been a key figure in Miami’s special teams unit. Prior to his tenure with the Dolphins, he served as special teams coordinator for the Buffalo Bills, Detroit Lions, and Carolina Panthers.
Welker, a former NFL standout and two-time All-Pro wide receiver, joined the Dolphins in 2022 when McDaniel was hired as head coach. Before his time in Miami, Welker worked as the receivers coach for the San Francisco 49ers from 2019 to 2021 and as an offensive/special teams assistant for the Houston Texans from 2017 to 2018.
The Dolphins’ decision to part ways with both coaches comes after a season in which the team fell short of its playoff aspirations. McDaniel emphasized that the moves were made with the goal of improving the team’s performance in the upcoming season.
