Miami Dolphins Part Ways with GM Chris Grier After Disappointing Season
Miami, FL — The Miami Dolphins and general manager Chris Grier have mutually agreed to part ways, the team announced Friday. This decision came one day after the Dolphins lost 28-6 to the Baltimore Ravens, dropping their record to 2-7 this season.
Grier had been with the Dolphins organization since 2000, starting as a scout. He became general manager in 2016 and oversaw a tumultuous period for the franchise. During his tenure, the Dolphins made the playoffs three times but have not won a postseason game since 2000, extending their drought to 23 years.
Owner Stephen Ross stated, “As I assessed the state of the team and in my discussions with Chris, it became clear to both of us that change could not wait. We must improve — in 2025, 2026 and beyond — and it needs to start right now.” Ross announced that Champ Kelly would serve as interim general manager while the team searches for a permanent replacement.
Under Grier, the Dolphins achieved playoff appearances in 2016, 2022, and 2023, although they were eliminated in the wild-card round both recent seasons. The Dolphins have ranked second in the AFC East six times but never captured the division title.
Grier’s coaching hires included Adam Gase, Brian Flores, and Mike McDaniel. While Gase led the team to the playoffs in his first year, both Flores and Gase were dismissed before Grier’s exit. McDaniel, who remains head coach for now, has been dealing with considerable pressure as well.
Fans showed their frustration during Thursday’s game against the Ravens, with many leaving Hard Rock Stadium early. Grier’s departure marks a significant moment in the franchise’s efforts to turn things around and return to competitiveness in the league.
