Miami Dolphins Raheem Mostert Action On Field

MIAMI, Fla. — Pro Bowl running back Raheem Mostert will not return to the Miami Dolphins next season, as confirmed by his agent Brett Tessler on social media Friday. Tessler tweeted, “Looks like my client Raheem Mostert will be playing elsewhere next season. Very thankful for his time with the Miami Dolphins, and this gives them a chance to get younger and gives him a chance to pursue a ring elsewhere.”

The move will save the Dolphins $2.9 million in cap space. Mostert’s release comes after a three-season tenure with the team, where he initially joined as a free agent ahead of the 2022 season on a one-year deal, later extending for two years worth $5.6 million.

Throughout his time in Miami, Mostert recorded significant career achievements. In the 2022 season, he established personal bests with 181 rush attempts and 891 rushing yards. Continued success in 2023 saw him rush 209 times for 1,012 yards and lead the league with 18 touchdowns, ultimately earning his first Pro Bowl selection.

Despite his success, Mostert’s role diminished in the 2024 season, where he served part-time behind standout running back De'Von Achane, who rushed for 907 yards and six touchdowns. Mostert managed only 278 rushing yards and two touchdowns, additionally losing touches to rookie Jaylen Wright, who had 249 rushing yards on 68 attempts.

The decision to release Mostert is part of the Dolphins’ strategy to leverage younger talent, as the team appears confident in its existing roster of running backs. With Achane and Wright, Miami looks forward to optimizing its running back lineup while alleviating salary cap issues.

Beginning his career as an undrafted free agent out of Purdue in 2015, Mostert had a rocky start, playing for multiple teams before finding success with the San Francisco 49ers from 2016 to 2021. There, he amassed 1,610 rushing yards and 11 touchdowns, gaining recognition for an unforgettable playoff performance in the 2019 season.

At 32 years old, Mostert now faces a pivotal moment in his career. While seen as aging compared to peers, his speed and experience continue to make him a desirable asset. A capable backup for any team, he remains hopeful to sign with a new franchise that values his talents.

The Dolphins’ front office is eager to restructure the team during this offseason following an underwhelming 8-9 season. With Mostert’s departure, management aims to not only recoup financial resources but also position the team for a more competitive future.
