Miami Grand Prix Set for Thrilling Showdown Amid Unsettled Weather

Miami, Florida – The 2025 Formula 1 season continues with the Miami Grand Prix, kicking off this Sunday amidst uncertain weather conditions. The race marks the sixth event of the season with reigning world champion Max Verstappen starting from pole position after a closely contested qualifying session.
Verstappen, driving for Red Bull Racing, secured his pole with a time of 1:26.204, just 0.065 seconds ahead of McLaren‘s Lando Norris. Kimi Antonelli qualified third, while Oscar Piastri, who leads the drivers’ championship, will start fourth.
The Miami International Autodrome, situated in the Hard Rock Stadium complex, has quickly gained attention since its debut in 2022. The track features 19 turns over a 5.4-kilometer circuit, giving it a unique street circuit feel. Rain is expected from Friday through Sunday, raising hopes for an unpredictable race.
This race is pivotal, especially following last year’s thrilling finish where Norris claimed his first victory and ended Verstappen’s winning streak. Norris recalled that moment, saying, “About time, huh?” after crossing the finish line in first place.
As the race approaches, tensions are high. The latest weather forecast shows a possibility of thundershowers, which could complicate race strategies. Temperatures are due to reach 27°C with a humidity of 69% on race day, adding to the challenges for drivers.
After qualifying, Verstappen expressed his happiness about securing pole, citing improvements made to the car: “It worked out well; I’m very happy, of course, to be on pole.” He believes he will handle the pressure well.
Norris, who is eager to capitalize on his strong qualifying performance, stated, “I’m ready to see what we can do into turn one. I don’t mind if it’s dry or wet. Miami seems to surprise us with the weather at the moment.”
All eyes will be on the battle between Verstappen, Norris, and Piastri as they navigate the challenging course. Fans can catch the live broadcast starting at 21:00 BST, with buildup beginning at 20:15 BST on BBC Radio 5 Live.
