Miami Hurricanes Secure Commitment from Former Indiana Forward Reneau

MIAMI, Fla. — The Miami Hurricanes men’s basketball team has secured its first commitment during the current transfer portal window, landing former Indiana forward Reneau. The 6-foot-8 player chose Miami over offers from top programs including Arkansas, Auburn, Michigan, and USC.
Reneau, a four-star transfer ranked as the No. 17 overall player in the On3 Transfer Portal Rankings, announced his decision on Monday after narrowing his options to five schools. He is following his former Indiana coach Jai Lucas to Coral Gables.
“He was a coach at Texas and some other schools before Miami, and he’s contacted me before,” Reneau told CaneSport, explaining his choice. “I’m open to anyone, and it’s not just Miami because it’s close to home. I’m just trying to hear everyone out to see what would be the best fit for my last year of college basketball.”
In the recent college basketball season, Reneau averaged 13.3 points, 5.5 rebounds, and 2.0 assists per game, showcasing a field goal percentage of 55.2, which placed him among the top 50 nationwide. He started 19 of the 26 games in the 2024-25 season at Indiana.
Reneau experienced substantial improvement during the 2023-24 season, logging career highs with averages of 15.4 points, 6.0 rebounds, and 2.7 assists while starting in all 33 games for the Hoosiers. Originally from South Florida, Reneau opted for Indiana out of high school over offers from Miami, Florida State, Memphis, and many others.
Prior to committing to Indiana, he was verbally pledged to the Florida Gators, who were pursuing him with assistance from former Gators assistant coach Erik Pastrana, now on the Miami staff. He was ranked as the No. 25 prospect nationally in his recruiting class, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, which aggregates ratings from major recruiting outlets.
As the transfer portal frenzy continues, the Hurricanes are expected to target additional players to bolster their squad ahead of the 2025-26 season. The portal has seen unprecedented activity, with over 1,100 players entering within the first 72 hours of the current period.
