Michael Kopech Joins the Dodgers in Three-Team Trade Ahead of World Series
In a significant move ahead of the 2024 World Series, the Los Angeles Dodgers have acquired reliever Michael Kopech as part of a three-team trade involving the St. Louis Cardinals and the Chicago White Sox. According to reports from ESPN‘s Jeff Passan, The Athletic‘s Ken Rosenthal and Katie Woo, and Jon Heyman of the New York Post, Kopech will be joining the Dodgers along with infielder/outfielder Tommy Edman from the Cardinals.
The trade sees Erick Fedde, a starting pitcher, moving from the White Sox to the Cardinals, while outfielder Tommy Pham will also be transferred from the White Sox to the Cardinals. In return, the White Sox will receive a haul of prospects, including Dodgers left fielder Miguel Vargas.
Kopech’s addition to the Dodgers’ roster comes at a crucial time, as the team is currently leading the 2024 World Series 2-0. His pitching skills, particularly his ability to throw effective 4-seamers and cutters, are expected to bolster the Dodgers’ bullpen. In the recent World Series games, Kopech has shown his efficiency, throwing just 14 pitches in his last outing.
The trade highlights the Dodgers’ proactive approach to strengthening their team, especially given their recent struggles at shortstop and the need for reliable pitching depth. With Kopech on board, the Dodgers are poised to make a strong push for the World Series title.
