Michigan Vs Oregon Women's Basketball Game 2024

ANN ARBOR, Mich. — The Michigan women’s basketball team delivered a commanding performance Sunday afternoon, defeating Oregon 80-48 at Crisler Center. The Wolverines (15-7, 6-5 Big Ten) snapped a two-game losing streak with their largest margin of victory this season, while the Ducks (16-6, 7-4) suffered their most lopsided defeat of the year.

Michigan’s offense was firing on all cylinders, shooting 54% from the field and 45% from beyond the arc. Freshman Mila Holloway led the charge with 19 points, while Olivia Olson added 18 points and 10 rebounds for her second double-double of the season. Brooke Quarles-Daniels contributed 10 points, and three other Wolverines scored nine points each.

Oregon, coming off a win against No. 16 Michigan State, struggled to find its rhythm, shooting just 30% overall and 26% from three-point range. Phillipina Kyei and Katie Fiso each scored 11 points, but the Ducks’ leading scorer, Deja Kelly, was held to just two points on 1-of-7 shooting.

The Wolverines set the tone early, racing to a 15-4 lead in the first quarter and shooting 69% in the period. Oregon briefly cut the deficit to five points in the second quarter, but Michigan’s defense and timely three-point shooting extended the lead to 38-24 by halftime.

Michigan continued to dominate after the break, with Olson and Holloway leading a third-quarter surge that pushed the lead to 63-41. The Wolverines sealed the win with back-to-back threes to start the fourth quarter, leaving the Ducks unable to mount a comeback.

“It was a complete team effort,” said Michigan head coach Kim Barnes Arico. “Our defense set the tone, and we executed really well on offense. Olivia and Mila were phenomenal, but everyone stepped up.”

The game also served as Michigan’s annual “pink game” for breast cancer awareness, with players and coaches wearing pink attire to support the cause. Senior Greta Kampschroeder, who designed the team’s long-sleeve shirts, went 3-for-3 from three-point range.

Oregon, which had won four straight games before Sunday, will return home to face No. 14 Maryland and No. 1 UCLA in a challenging week ahead. Michigan, meanwhile, will travel to Nebraska for its next game on Thursday.
