Michigan Faces Maryland in Big Ten Semifinal Showdown

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. — The Michigan Wolverines and Maryland Terrapins will clash in the Big Ten Tournament semifinals on Saturday, March 15, 2025, at Gainbridge Fieldhouse.
The No. 2 seed Terrapins (24-7) will tip off against the No. 3 seed Wolverines (22-9) at 3:30 PM ET, each team vying for the chance to advance to the final. Michigan enters the game with a record of 14-6 in conference play, settling in third place in the Big Ten standings.
Maryland, meanwhile, has seen a surge in momentum, winning four straight games, including recent victories against Penn State and Illinois. Their stellar performance over the past month has resulted in eight wins in their last nine games, making them a formidable opponent as they seek to secure their spot in the championship.
The Wolverines, despite battling inconsistency throughout the season, managed to clinch a victory in their last outing against Michigan State, which halted a streak of three losses in their prior five games.
“We’re excited to play in such a pivotal game,” said Michigan senior center Vlad Goldin, who is averaging 16.7 points and 6.7 rebounds per game. “We know the stakes are high, and we need to bring our best effort.”
Goldin is supported by junior center Danny Wolf, who contributes nearly a double-double with 12.9 points and 9.7 rebounds per game, and junior guard Tre Donaldson, averaging 11.5 points and 3.9 assists. Senior guard Nimari Burnett rounds out the offensive lineup, averaging 9.9 points.
On the other end, Maryland’s freshman center Derik Queen has emerged as a key player, leading the Terps with 15.7 points and 9.2 rebounds per game. He is often complemented by junior guard Ja’Kobi Gillespie, who provides dynamic scoring with an average of 14.9 points and 4.7 assists per outing. Additionally, sophomore guard Rodney Rice averages 13.7 points, with senior forward Julian Reese contributing 13.2 points and 9.3 rebounds, solidifying Maryland’s inside presence.
“We’ve built a great team chemistry, and it’s showing in our performances,” said Gillespie. “We’re looking forward to the challenge that Michigan presents.”
