Jake Garcia Quarterback Transfer Announcement

ANN ARBOR, Mich. — Michigan football has signed veteran quarterback Jake Garcia as a transfer, the program announced on Monday. The fifth-year graduate student previously started six games at East Carolina and is expected to bolster the Wolverines’ quarterback depth as summer workouts are underway.

Garcia visited Michigan last week, adding to the excitement over his potential impact. He has played for four college programs in just five years, navigating the challenges of the transfer portal and name, image, and likeness regulations in college athletics.

Last season at East Carolina, Garcia threw for 1,425 yards, eight touchdowns, and struggled with 12 interceptions. He opened the season with a strong performance against Norfolk State but faltered in a later game, leading to the loss of his starting position.

Before his stint at ECU, he spent time at Missouri for a season without playing and two seasons at the University of Miami. While at Miami, he accumulated 950 passing yards, seven touchdowns, and four interceptions over nine games.

Garcia, a native of Southern California, gained attention as a high school star at Grayson High School in Georgia, throwing for nearly 6,000 yards and more than 50 touchdowns. He was highly regarded by recruiting services, earning a four-star rating and attracting offers from top programs like Alabama and USC.

At Michigan, Garcia’s role is likely to be that of a backup. The competition for the starting position will be fierce with freshman Bryce Underwood and graduate transfer Mikey Keene, who brings significant experience with 35 college starts. Other scholarship quarterbacks on the roster include senior Davis Warren, sophomore Jadyn Davis, and freshman Chase Herbstreit.
