Michigan’s El-Hadi Returns for Fifth Season as Persi Transfers
ANN ARBOR, Mich. — Michigan offensive lineman Giovanni El-Hadi announced Wednesday on Instagram that he will return for a fifth and final season with the Wolverines, while offensive tackle Jeff Persi has decided to transfer.
El-Hadi, who started every game at right guard last season, has appeared in 42 games during his Michigan career. In his Instagram post, he expressed his commitment to the team and his faith. “I am completely dedicated to this team, this university, and to giving my all on the field, trusting that God will guide us every step of the way,” El-Hadi wrote.
Meanwhile, Persi, who appeared in 38 games with three starts at left tackle, has opted to enter the transfer portal. His departure leaves a gap in Michigan’s offensive line depth as the team prepares for the 2024 season.
El-Hadi’s return provides stability for a Michigan offensive line that has been a cornerstone of the team’s recent success. The Wolverines have won three consecutive Big Ten championships and made the College Football Playoff in each of the past three seasons.
Michigan head coach Sherrone Moore, who took over after Jim Harbaugh‘s departure to the NFL, will rely on El-Hadi’s experience as the team looks to maintain its dominance in the Big Ten. The Wolverines are expected to be among the favorites to win the conference again in 2024.
