Michigan Pro Day Nfl Draft Prospects

ANN ARBOR, Mich. — Michigan‘s Pro Day on Friday underscored the potential of several Wolverines as future NFL stars, with five players projected to be first-round selections in the upcoming 2025 NFL Draft. This event garnered significant attention from NFL scouts, particularly the Detroit Lions, who are looking to bolster their roster.

Among the notable participants was cornerback Will Johnson, ranked No. 3 at his position by ESPN. However, Johnson sat out the drills due to a hamstring injury but plans to return for a workout on April 14 in Ann Arbor. He expressed resilience regarding his injury, stating, “I want to play just as much as they want me to play.” Johnson aims to record a 4.40 in the 40-yard dash, further expanding his draft appeal.

Another standout, defensive tackle Kenneth Grant, showed significant improvement in his strength by increasing his bench press performance from 22 to 27 repetitions. Although he posted three sacks last season, Grant’s climb on the draft board could place him in the Lions’ sights, as his current ranking is in the late-20s. The Lions had already met with Grant during the NFL Combine, indicating their interest.

Additionally, outside linebacker Josaiah Stewart, who has been identified as a key player in the Pro Day, showcased his skills. After impressing during his college career at Michigan, Stewart is confident that his versatility will catch NFL teams’ attention. He told reporters, “Overall, my flexibility on defense… teams like my versatility, especially on third down.” The player vying for an early Day 2 selection only weighed in at the Pro Day, having slimmed down seven pounds since the combine.

Defensive back Makari Paige was another Michigan prospect who shone at the Pro Day, displaying notable speed in the 40-yard dash. Teams may be enticed by his combination of agility and prototypical safety size, which could lead to a selection in the later rounds.

With the NFL Draft set to kick off from April 24-26 in Green Bay, Wisconsin, the Lions may explore trading up for prospects like Stewart. Notably, EDGE rusher remains a recognized area of need for the team, making second-round selections for players like Stewart a point of conversation.

As the draft approaches, Michigan’s Pro Day performance has certainly set the stage for these athletes to elevate their stock in a competitive landscape. With the Lions’ strategic interest, Michigan players will continue to be focal points in the scouting and drafting processes.
