Michigan Wins Commitment from Four-Star OL Bear McWhorter

ANN ARBOR, Mich. — The University of Michigan football team has secured a commitment from four-star offensive lineman Bear McWhorter, marking a significant win in the recruiting landscape. McWhorter, a 6-foot-3.5, 293-pound athlete from Cass High School in White, Georgia, made the announcement during a ceremony at his school on Friday afternoon.
This recruitment is particularly noteworthy as McWhorter is named after legendary Alabama Crimson Tide coach Bear Bryant. Michigan’s acquisition is even more impressive given that just 24 hours prior, experts predicted McWhorter would commit to Alabama.
Michigan extended a scholarship offer to McWhorter last July, shortly after he decommitted from Arkansas. He visited Ann Arbor for an unofficial visit last month and participated in the annual BBQ at the Big House event last summer.
“My parents love all the relationships we have with the coaches. It’s one place that’s further away that they’re comfortable sending me off to,” McWhorter said about Michigan. “Genuine people. And it’s a great offensive line culture. They are going to run the ball and be tough and do the right stuff in the weight room.”
McWhorter’s commitment adds to Michigan’s growing 2026 recruiting class, joining four-star cornerback Brody Jennings and three-star wide receiver Jaylen Pile. In addition to Michigan and Alabama, McWhorter held offers from several top programs including Georgia, Texas, Ole Miss, Clemson, Florida, and LSU.
According to 247Sports’ composite rankings, McWhorter is rated as the No. 45 prospect in Georgia, the No. 32 interior offensive lineman, and the No. 385 overall prospect in the 2026 class.
As of now, Florida’s Gators, who were competing for McWhorter’s commitment, still have a robust list of prospects and continue to pursue multiple blue-chip recruits on the offensive line. They currently hold commitments from four-star quarterback Will Griffin and four-star safety Devin Jackson for the 2026 recruiting class.
The Wolverines, under head coach Jim Harbaugh, remain a formidable contender in college football, and the addition of McWhorter could bolster their offensive line for years to come. This recruitment victory is a testament to Michigan’s ability to attract top talent despite fierce competition from other elite programs.
