Michigan Wolverines Face Off Against Washington Huskies in College Football Showdown
The Michigan Wolverines and Washington Huskies are set for a dramatic rematch in Week 6 of the 2024 college football season, with both teams now competing as Big Ten conference foes. This clash comes just months after the two teams faced off in the 2023 national championship.
The Wolverines, under new head coach Sherrone Moore, who succeeded Jim Harbaugh, now coaching the Los Angeles Chargers, have had to navigate a challenging season after losing 13 players to the 2024 NFL Draft. Meanwhile, the Huskies, also led by a new coach, Jedd Fisch, following Kalen DeBoer’s departure to Alabama, have similarly faced difficulties, largely due to the departure of their star quarterback Michael Penix Jr., who joined the NFL.
Washington faces the challenging task of halting Michigan’s formidable rushing offense, which amassed 290 yards and three touchdowns against USC last month. However, the Wolverines have struggled through the air, with quarterback Alex Orji throwing for just 118 yards across his last two games. In contrast, the Huskies have thrived in their passing game, with Mississippi State transfer Will Rogers throwing for 1,354 yards and 10 touchdowns without interceptions over five games, boasting a completion rate of 74.8%.
The Wolverines currently hold a narrow 17-14 lead as they enter the fourth quarter, largely due to the efforts of quarterback Jack Tuttle. After Michigan trailed 14-0, Tuttle orchestrated back-to-back scoring drives, including a significant touchdown to Colston Loveland.
Will Rogers and the Huskies commenced the game with a strong 13-play, 83-yard drive, concluding with a touchdown pass to receiver Denzel Boston. However, Michigan’s defense made key plays, including blocking a Washington field goal attempt, maintaining a slim margin.
The match is being hosted at Husky Stadium, Seattle, with kickoff scheduled for 7:30 p.m. ET. Fans can watch the game live on NBC, or stream it through the NBC app and Peacock.
The Wolverines are facing a tough battle in a competitive setting, having made a 2,000-mile journey to a stadium where the Huskies have won 17 consecutive games. The pressure is high for Michigan, aiming to correct their previous road game performances after losing the College Football Playoff semi-finals twice in recent years.
According to predictions, while Michigan remains strong contenders, Washington is slightly favored to take the victory, with projected scoring at Washington 26, Michigan 20. Weather forecasts suggest partly cloudy skies, with temperatures dropping from 64 degrees at kickoff to the mid-to-high 50s as the evening progresses.
