Mid-Carolina Defeats Saluda in Tense State Playoff Battle

SALUDA, S.C. — The Mid-Carolina Lady Rebels secured a narrow victory over the Saluda Lady Tigers in the first round of the AA state playoffs on February 19, 2025, winning 29-23 on the road. With this win, Mid-Carolina advanced to the second round, marking their third consecutive year reaching this stage of the tournament.
The teams had previously split their two meetings earlier in the season, adding extra tension to this playoff face-off. Mid-Carolina entered the match with a record of 9-15, while Saluda was positioned at 15-5.
The game was characterized by a lack of scoring, with both teams producing their second-lowest point totals of the season. Mid-Carolina managed only ten points in the first half but held Saluda to just eight, leading 10-8 at halftime.
As the third quarter progressed, Saluda began to pick up the pace, scoring ten points to Mid-Carolina’s nine. However, the visiting Rebels maintained their slim lead, finishing the quarter ahead 19-18.
In the fourth quarter, Mid-Carolina stepped up their offense while stifling Saluda’s scoring efforts. The Rebels scored ten points while limiting the Lady Tigers to just five, ultimately sealing their victory.
“We did what it took to get the win, even when the scoring was low,” said Mid-Carolina’s head coach. “It’s a playoff atmosphere; every point matters.”
The Lady Rebels will have a few days off to prepare for their next opponent, hoping to break through in the upcoming round and further their playoff run.
