Mike Williams Returns to Chargers on One-Year Deal Worth Up to $6 Million

LOS ANGELES, March 12, 2025 — The Los Angeles Chargers announced Wednesday night that they have re-signed veteran wide receiver Mike Williams to a one-year deal worth up to $6 million. This marks Williams’ return to the Chargers after spending the first seven years of his NFL career with the team.
Williams, 30, was selected seventh overall in the 2017 NFL Draft out of Clemson. Despite having two seasons with over 1,000 receiving yards, including a standout year in 2019 when he averaged 20.4 yards per reception, his past season with the New York Jets was disappointing. He registered only 12 catches for 166 yards in nine games before being traded to the Pittsburgh Steelers, where he finished with nine receptions for 132 yards.
Chargers General Manager Tom Telesco expressed optimism about Williams’ return, stating, “Mike brings experience and a proven track record to our receiving group. He has shown the ability to make significant plays in key moments, and we’re excited to have him back in our lineup.”
In his eight-year career, Williams has recorded 32 touchdown catches and over 5,100 receiving yards. However, injuries have impacted his performance, including a torn ACL in 2023 that cut his previous season short. His ability to stay healthy will be crucial as he reunites with quarterback Justin Herbert and a revamped receiving corps.
During his tenure with the Chargers, Williams was known for his deep threat capabilities and ability to stretch the field. His return comes at a pivotal time for the Chargers, who are looking to bolster their passing attack following a lackluster 2024 season. With fellow receiver Keenan Allen signing a lucrative deal with the Buffalo Bills, the Chargers are banking on Williams to fill a vital role.
Despite a challenging 2024 season, in which he recorded limited catches, Williams’ history of production with the Chargers makes him a valuable asset in 2025. The team hopes he can regain his form and make a significant contribution alongside emerging stars.
The Chargers are now 55 players on the roster following this signing, continuing to build for the upcoming season with a mixture of veteran stability and youthful promise. As the free agency period progresses, fans will be eager to see how this move impacts the Chargers’ offensive strategy and their playoff aspirations.
