MILAN, Italy — AC Milan is actively exploring the transfer market for a left-back as uncertainty looms over Theo Hernandez’s future with the club. Reports indicate that Milan’s scouting team will be closely monitoring Maxim De Cuyper during Atalanta’s match against Club Brugge at Gewiss Stadium.
De Cuyper, a promising Belgian left-back, has been a standout player since making his first-team debut for Club Brugge in February 2020 during a Europa League match against Manchester United. His ascent through the ranks of the Brugge youth team, where he was nurtured since 2008, has showcased his potential on the pitch.
In the 2021-22 season, De Cuyper had a successful loan at KVC Westerlo, where he scored nine goals in 39 appearances, a remarkable achievement for a defender. His performance caught the eye, and in the 2022-23 season, he continued to impress, playing 37 games, netting three goals, and providing 10 assists, which helped his team secure the league title.
Despite not playing during the European Championship last summer in Germany, De Cuyper has attracted attention from various clubs across Europe, especially in the Bundesliga and Premier League. Milan has expressed interest in the 24-year-old for some time and sees him as a viable option should they decide to part ways with Hernandez.
Other clubs, including Arsenal, Tottenham, and Chelsea, have also included De Cuyper in their lists of potential signings. Parma previously attempted to acquire him but backed off due to Brugge’s asking price of approximately €20 million. Meanwhile, Milan remains committed to scouting De Cuyper and will have representatives observing his performance in tonight’s match.
