Milan Futuro Secures First Serie C Victory with Win Over SPAL
On the evening of September 26, 2024, Milan Futuro secured a momentous victory in the club’s history with a 2-1 win over SPAL at the Stadio Chinetti in Solbiate Arno. This match marked the debut victory for the Rossoneri management, which includes famed personalities such as Zlatan Ibrahimović, Geoffrey Moncada, and Angelo Carbone, alongside manager Daniele Bonera. The spirited performance not only earned them three crucial points but also set a hopeful tone for the challenges ahead in Serie C.
The Milan side started cautiously but found their stride during the latter stages of the first half before breaking through in the second half. A clinical shot from Edin Hodzic in the 67th minute opened the scoring for Milan Futuro. Despite a setback eight minutes later, when SPAL equalized through a goal by Marco Arena, the Rossoneri were not deterred. Demba Traorè’s decisive header in the 85th minute ultimately sealed the victory. However, the anxiety was prolonged until the final whistle, especially following a near-miss by SPAL’s Mattia Bruscagin in the 89th minute.
The match was played in challenging conditions due to rain, which made the pitch slippery. SPAL initially appeared the more organized side, with early chances coming from Theophilus Awua and Mikael Karllson. However, Milan’s defensive strategy held firm, with goalkeeper Davide Raveyre making crucial saves to deny the visitors.
As the match progressed, Milan Futuro gradually improved their offensive maneuvers, largely dominated by efforts down the flanks. Crucial plays from Davide Bozzolan and Daniel Sandri troubled the SPAL defense, but it was Edin Hodzic who found the back of the net with a left-footed strike from 20 meters that caught the SPAL goalkeeper, Ricardo Melgrati, off guard.
Trailing from Hodzic’s goal, SPAL intensified their attacks, resulting in a corner that saw Arena scoring the equalizer after an initial save by Raveyre. Milan Futuro’s response, however, was quick and effective, resulting in Traorè’s strike from a set-piece situation.
Reacting to their first league win, Coach Daniele Bonera commended his team’s resilience and determination in confronting the match’s hurdles. “We needed this win to lift our spirits and gather momentum,” Bonera remarked.
The victory propels Milan Futuro to five points in the league standings, with ambitions set on climbing higher. The team will prepare for their upcoming match against Lucchese, scheduled for September 30, 2024.
