$1.3 Million Bet Placed on Chiefs-Bills AFC Championship Game

LAS VEGAS, Nev. — A high-stakes bettor at Caesars Palace wagered $1.3 million on the Kansas City Chiefs to defeat the Buffalo Bills in Sunday’s AFC Championship Game, according to Joey Feazel, head of football at Caesars Sportsbook. The money-line bet, placed at -130 odds on Monday, could net the bettor $1 million if the Chiefs win.
The marquee matchup has drawn significant attention from bettors, with DraftKings sportsbook director Johnny Avello predicting it will be one of the largest non-Super Bowl handles in the book’s history. Despite the massive wager at Caesars and other large bets on Kansas City, Avello and Feazel noted that betting action has been relatively balanced between the two teams. Public bettors, who typically place smaller wagers, have shown strong support for Buffalo, with ESPN BET reporting 71.7% of bets backing the Bills’ spread (+2) and 68.9% of tickets on their money line (+110) as of Friday afternoon.
“If you talk to a lot of football people, the people that bet and watch, they’ll tell you they’re tired of the Chiefs,” Avello said. “They’re also tired of the Bills losing. The Bills have been in this position before, they’ve had many opportunities over the last five years to win the whole thing, and they haven’t. And now you have to go to Kansas City and win a football game, which is not easy.”
Kansas City has defeated Buffalo in all three of their playoff meetings during the Patrick Mahomes and Josh Allen eras. However, the Bills secured a 30-21 victory over the Chiefs in Week 11 of the regular season in Buffalo. While $1.3 million bets are not uncommon during the playoffs, they typically emerge closer to the Super Bowl and are rarely placed on such a tight line.
This season has seen other notable high-stakes wagers. In Week 14, a Kentucky bettor won nearly $443,000 after betting $3.1 million on the Dallas Cowboys to beat the Philadelphia Eagles at -700 odds. Conversely, a Caesars Palace bettor lost $1 million in Week 12 when the San Francisco 49ers failed to cover as a three-point underdog against the Eagles at -120 odds.
The Chiefs and Bills have developed a fierce rivalry in recent years, with Mahomes and Allen leading their teams to multiple playoff showdowns. Sunday’s game marks the fourth time in five years—and the second time in the AFC Championship Game—that the two teams will meet in the postseason. Kansas City, already a dominant force in the post-Tom Brady NFL, seeks to cement its legacy with a fourth Super Bowl title since 2019. Meanwhile, Buffalo aims to overcome its playoff struggles against the Chiefs and secure its first Super Bowl appearance since the 1993-94 season.
The Bills won the regular-season matchup between the teams on Nov. 17, 30-21. Sunday’s game will be played at Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City, Mo., and will air on CBS at 6:30 p.m. ET. Streaming options include Paramount+, Fubo, Sling, YouTube TV, and Hulu + Live TV.
