Miro’s Homecoming: AEW Star Returns to WWE After Four-Year Absence

STAMFORD, Conn. — Former AEW TNT Champion Miro, known during his WWE run as Rusev, is officially back with World Wrestling Entertainment. The announcement follows his visit to WWE headquarters on Wednesday, confirming widespread speculation about his return.
Miro, who was with WWE from 2010 to 2020, built a notable career as a three-time United States Champion, facing legends like John Cena at WrestleMania 31. He became a fan favorite alongside Aiden English as part of the popular “Rusev Day” gimmick. Miro’s tenure was marked by both success and challenges, culminating in a release from WWE in 2020 as part of the company’s cost-cutting measures.
Since then, Miro joined AEW and found initial triumph, capturing the TNT Championship. However, his run was hindered by injuries and limited on-screen appearances. His last match in AEW occurred in December 2023, where he faced Andrade El Idolo at the Worlds End pay-per-view event.
In February 2025, rumors began to swirl regarding Miro’s potential return to WWE, alongside other former AEW talents like Ricky Starks and Malakai Black, who have since joined WWE programming. Reports from PWInsider confirmed that Miro signed with WWE during his September visit, solidifying his comeback.
“PWInsider.com has confirmed with multiple sources that Rusev (aka Miro) has been at WWE HQ in Stamford, CT, all day today and was spotted by multiple sources,” Mike Johnson of PWInsider reported. “According to those we’ve spoken with today, Rusev has signed with the company and was at HQ today to set the stage for his return.”
While Miro was seen exploring WWE’s Stamford facility, his real-life wife, C.J. Perry, known in WWE as Lana, was not with him during the visit. Details about the exact timing of Miro’s on-screen return remain undisclosed.
Fightful has been closely monitoring developments in Miro’s WWE journey, promising updates as they emerge. As the wrestling community anticipates his return, Miro’s evolution and story in WWE is set to continue once again.
