Miro Requests Release from AEW, Career Takes New Turn

CHICAGO, Ill. — Miro, a notable figure in professional wrestling, has officially parted ways with All Elite Wrestling (AEW) after a mutual agreement was reached, leaving fans and industry insiders speculating about his next steps. This announcement came just hours after fellow wrestler Malakai Black’s release was reported.

Mike Johnson from PWInsider confirmed that negotiations surrounding Miro’s departure had been underway for some time, stating, “The two sides had been working towards an agreement for some time.” The former TNT Champion had requested his release last fall, and after a protracted discussion, both parties decided to move forward separately.

Miro initially joined AEW in September 2020 as Kip Sabian’s “Best Man” and quickly became a fan favorite, especially after embracing the “Redeemer” persona. He won the TNT Championship in 2021 but faced a series of challenges in subsequent years, which included sporadic appearances and a notable absence from television in 2024.

His last match occurred on December 30, 2023, against Andrade, marking a significant conclusion to his AEW career. It is speculated that, following his exit, Miro may return to WWE, especially given recent rumors of interest in working under Paul “Triple H” Levesque.

Alongside Miro, Ricky Starks has also been removed from AEW’s roster, confirming his departure. Starks requested his release last month, but it was initially denied; however, he too has been absent from programming since March 2024.

Malakai Black’s contract has also reportedly expired, indicating a notable shift in AEW’s roster as 2025 begins. Miro’s tenure at AEW included high-profile matches, but he increasingly faced challenges, wrestling only a total of 11 matches since signing a four-year extension on his contract.

Miro’s history with wrestling has been marked by both success and periods of inactivity. Following his release from WWE during the pandemic, his switch to AEW initially served to revitalize his career, but inconsistent booking left many fans feeling disconnected from his character.
