Mississauga Faces Severe Flooding This Weekend
This weekend, Mississauga is dealing with a heavy rainstorm that has led to serious flooding in many parts of the city. Local officials are reporting that roads are closed and traffic is backed up due to the severe weather.
Environment Canada has warned residents that we might see between 100 to 200 mm of rain, and all the creeks and rivers are either at capacity or overflowing into parks and green spaces. Safety is a top concern right now.
City crews are hard at work responding to numerous service requests related to flooding. They are addressing issues like flooded sidewalks, blocked catch basins, and even dislodged maintenance hole covers.
Residents are urged to steer clear of flooded areas and respect any posted signs or barricades for their own safety. It is especially important to avoid parks and trails around creeks such as the Credit River and Cooksville Creek.
If you’re out and about, expect slower travel times as many roads are under water. And for those planning to fly out of Pearson Airport, anticipate delays and possibly even flight diversions due to the weather conditions.
Firefighters have been busy as well, with reports of rescues, including one where a pedestrian was found clinging to a light standard in a flooded area. The warning from local authorities is clear: stay safe and avoid unnecessary travel until the storm passes.
