Mlb Opening Day 2025 Highlights

NEW YORK, NY — Major League Baseball’s 2025 season officially kicks off on Thursday with 28 of the 30 teams taking to the field for Opening Day. The excitement begins at 3:05 p.m. ET when the New York Yankees host the Milwaukee Brewers, followed by nine games starting between 4:05 p.m. ET and 4:15 p.m. ET.

The Yankees lineup faces serious questions this season, notably after star pitcher Gerrit Cole underwent Tommy John surgery. Cole’s absence, combined with Giancarlo Stanton‘s indefinite sidelining due to elbow pain, leaves New York searching for players who can step up in their critical moments. ‘This season is a defining one for us,’ said Yankees manager Aaron Boone. ‘We need to find new leaders on this team.’

Meanwhile, the Milwaukee Brewers are not without their challenges, losing key players in recent trades and free agency. However, they still boast a roster capable of competing in the National League Central, with a focus on how their young talent, including up-and-comer Jackson Chourio, will perform this year.

One of the most anticipated stories of the day is the debut of outfielder Juan Soto with the New York Mets. Soto, who recently signed the largest contract in professional sports history, will take the field at Daikin Park against his former team, the Houston Astros, at 4:10 p.m. ET. Soto hopes to bring a fresh start to the Mets, who have yet to see an MVP award winner in their franchise history. ‘I’m ready to set new records here,’ Soto stated confidently.

At the same time, Cleveland Guardians look to build on the momentum from last season when they dominated the American League. The Guardians, bolstered by a strong bullpen including Emmanuel Clase, will take on the Kansas City Royals, who made surprising playoff appearances in recent years. Conversely, Kansas City aims to revitalize its offense after a disappointing preceding season.

This year’s Opening Day also marks the debut of rookie catcher Dylan Lesko for the Atlanta Braves. With stars Ozzie Albies and Ronald Acuña Jr. both on the disabled list, Lesko’s performance could prove pivotal as the Braves aim for a competitive start against the San Diego Padres at 4:10 p.m. ET.

Fans will also keep an eye on the Boston Red Sox, who will feature their new ace, Garrett Crochet, fresh from a stellar season with the Chicago White Sox. The matchup against the Texas Rangers promises tension as both teams are eager to strike early in the season.

Over in Los Angeles, the Angels’ Mike Trout will make history as he shifts to right field after years of playing center. This transition comes as Angels fans hope Trout’s move will help manage his health throughout the long season. ‘This change is for the better. I want to be on the field, making plays, and leading this team,’ Trout asserted.

As the league prepares for an exciting day packed with high stakes and fresh starts, fans can expect multiple live updates and analyses from reporters stationed at each ballpark. ‘It’s going to be an electrifying day for all players and fans alike,’ said ESPN Sports Analyst Dan Rizzo.

Whether it’s rookies making their debut or veterans working through injuries, the buzz surrounding MLB’s Opening Day in 2025 promises thrilling matches and impactful moments that will set the tone for the season ahead.
