Mlb Divisional Series 2024

As the MLB postseason progresses, the excitement surrounding the National League Division Series (NLDS) and the American League Division Series (ALDS) continues to captivate baseball fans. Adam Wainwright, a former World Series champion and current FOX MLB analyst, shared his insights during an appearance on “GoJo and Golic,” analyzing the ongoing playoff matchups.

During the segment, Mike Golic Jr. commented on the unprecedented nature of current playoff baseball, where all divisional series are tied for the first time in history. Wainwright expressed his enthusiasm, noting that it is beneficial for the sport when teams defy expectations. He referenced how underdog teams, such as the unnamed ones playing spirited baseball, heighten the excitement of the postseason.

In particular, Wainwright discussed the intriguing NLDS matchup, which he compared to a classic heavyweight title fight between fictional boxing icons Rocky Balboa and Apollo Creed. He emphasized the competitive parity, stating, “The team that loses is the one that runs out of innings,” as both teams continue to battle fiercely without backing down.

Mike Golic Sr. steered the conversation towards the Mets’ recent game strategies, where they have a tendency to take the lead in late innings. Wainwright acknowledged this approach as risky but noted that the Mets seem to thrive on this style of play, having done so for the past month. He recalled a conversation with Mets player Harrison Bader, who conveyed a belief in their predestined success.

As for the ALDS, the struggles of star players like Aaron Judge and Bobby Witt Jr. were a focal point. Despite their outstanding regular-season performances, both have underperformed in the current series. Wainwright attributed this to the detailed preparation by opposing teams, who prioritized neutralizing these key players. However, he remains confident in their potential to rally, stating, “With one stroke of the bat, these players can change everything.”

Looking at another compelling matchup within the NLDS, Wainwright discussed the intense rivalry and emotional stakes involved. He advised that one particular team should maintain composure and avoid getting drawn into the “chippiness” that benefits their opponents. While acknowledging San Diego‘s strong roster, he indicated that the star power within the Dodgers‘ lineup could be pivotal in determining the series outcome.
