Mlb Power Rankings May 2025

CHICAGO, Ill. (AP) — As the 2025 MLB season reaches the end of May, power rankings have begun to stabilize with familiar teams back at the top. After Week 9, the Philadelphia Phillies have claimed the No. 1 spot for the first time this season, a notable shift as they boast a 35-19 record.

Despite preseason predictions favoring other teams, the Phillies have demonstrated strong performance, particularly in pitching. Since April 26, they are 21-6, with their starting rotation showing impressive stats, including a 1.08 ERA from their leading pitcher in recent starts.

The Detroit Tigers, with a record of 37-20, follow closely behind after a standout performance from Tarik Skubal, who threw a no-hitter against the Guardians. Skubal’s dominance has kept the Tigers competitive and marked them as a serious contender.

Ranked third are the Los Angeles Dodgers, sitting at 34-22. Despite facing injury challenges among their star pitchers, their deep offense has allowed them to maintain a successful streak. Shohei Ohtani continues to shine, hitting well and contributing significantly.

The New York Yankees (35-20) and Chicago Cubs (35-21) round out the top five, with the Cubs showing a relentless offense, averaging six runs a game, putting them on pace for one of their best seasons since 2007.

Amid these changes, the New York Mets, currently grappling with a disappointing 31-23 record, face scrutiny regarding Juan Soto’s performance after his record $765 million deal. Soto’s struggles at the plate couldn’t be any more evident as his batting average sits at .224, down significantly from last season.

The season isn’t without surprises. The Seattle Mariners and the San Francisco Giants also show promise, with their pitching and offensive support keeping them competitive in the rankings.

As teams prepare for a busy June, each organization looks to press forward and solidify their positions in the playoffs. The next few weeks could be crucial in determining the playoff picture as the season progresses.
