Mohun Bagan Super Giant Dominate Kolkata Derby Against East Bengal Fc

Mohun Bagan Super Giant secured a commanding 3-1 victory over East Bengal FC in the highly-anticipated Kolkata Derby of the Indian Super League (ISL) 2023-24 season. The match took place at the iconic Salt Lake Stadium in Kolkata, setting the stage for an intense showdown between the two arch-rivals.

The Mariners displayed an impressive attacking prowess right from the start, with key players such as Jason Cummings, Liston Colaco, and Dimitrios Petratos leading the charge. Their dominance in the first half saw them score three goals and establish a firm grip on the game, leaving East Bengal struggling to keep up with their pace.

East Bengal FC had an early opportunity to take the lead through a penalty, as Cleiton Silva was brought down in the box by Mohun Bagan’s goalkeeper Vishal Kaith. However, Kaith redeemed himself with a crucial save, denying Silva from converting the spot-kick and shifting the momentum in favor of the Mariners.

The first goal of the match came in the 27th minute when Cummings capitalized on a rebound from Petratos’ shot to open the scoring for Mohun Bagan. This was followed by Colaco’s goal in the 36th minute, assisted by Petratos, and a penalty converted by Petratos himself in added time, giving the Mariners a comfortable lead going into the break.

Despite a spirited effort from East Bengal in the second half, highlighted by Saul Crespo‘s goal to reduce the deficit, Mohun Bagan’s solid defense and agile goalkeeping from Kaith prevented any further comeback from their rivals. The match ended with a resounding victory for Mohun Bagan Super Giant, propelling them to the top of the league standings.

Both teams will now turn their attention to their upcoming fixtures, with Mohun Bagan set to face Kerala Blasters FC on March 13, while East Bengal will clash with the same opponents on April 3 in their quest for vital points in the ISL campaign.
