Oakland, CA – Monta Ellis, a former star for the Golden State Warriors, recently spoke about his time with Steph Curry during a candid interview.

Ellis spent the early part of his career with the Warriors, playing alongside Curry for part of three seasons. He expressed admiration for Curry’s work ethic, saying, “I knew he worked hard. He definitely would pay attention and the things that I was doing, he paid a whole lot of attention to it and he put that in his game… Did I know he was gonna be that? Nah. He did work hard though… Now seeing it, I’m not surprised.”

Curry, who dealt with injuries during his first three seasons, found success when he strengthened his body to handle the rigors of the NBA. He didn’t reach All-Star status until his fifth year. In contrast, Ellis was traded to the Milwaukee Bucks after his tenure with the Warriors and also played for the Dallas Mavericks and Indiana Pacers.

Ellis had a notable career, averaging 17.8 points, 3.5 rebounds, 4.6 assists, and 1.7 steals per game over 12 seasons, although he never made an All-Star team. He finished his career with shooting percentages of 45.1% from the field and 31.4% from beyond the arc.

Reflecting on the decision to keep Curry over him, it’s clear the Warriors made a pivotal choice that shaped the franchise’s future, as Curry has established himself as one of the greatest players in NBA history.
