Monte Carlo Masters Kicks Off Clay Season with Star-Studded Matches

MONTE CARLO, Monaco — The 2025 Rolex Monte-Carlo Masters commenced its first-round matches on April 6, featuring top-ranked players as they embark on the clay season.
Taking place at the prestigious Monte-Carlo Country Club, this tournament runs from April 6 to 13. Among the notable players competing are defending champion Stefanos Tsitsipas, world number one Alexander Zverev, and rising star Carlos Alcaraz.
The first-round matches are scheduled to begin across various courts at 11:00 AM local time. On Court Rainier III, high-profile matches include Zverev facing a wildcard player from Switzerland, while Tsitsipas is set to challenge an opponent from Italy.
The tournament sees the return of several athletes who excel on clay, including Novak Djokovic and the acclaimed Tsitsipas, the latter looking to assert his dominance after breaking back into the ATP top 10 last month. “This is the surface I feel most comfortable on,” Tsitsipas commented at a press briefing. “I’m excited to defend my title.”
As the clay season begins, many players aim to capitalize on early opportunities to earn vital ATP points before the French Open. Both Zverev and Alcaraz have made their mark on clay courts; Zverev has won multiple Masters 1000 titles, while Alcaraz boasts the title of defending French Open champion.
This year’s event will be pivotal for players like Tsitsipas, looking to maintain momentum after a strong previous season. The tournament boasts a total prize purse of €6,128,940, with significant rewards available for advancing through the rounds, including a winner’s share of €919,075.
Broadcasting rights for the Monte Carlo Masters have been secured by Eurosport across Europe, ensuring fans have access to the action. Tennis TV will stream global matches, while local broadcasters include Movistar in Spain, Sky Sports in the U.K., and Tennis Channel in the U.S.
The draw for the tournament will be finalized today, April 4, and will include crucial matchups that set the stage for one of the most prestigious events in the ATP calendar.
