Montez Sweat Returns to Bears Practice, Boosts Hopes for Upcoming Packers Game
Chicago Bears defensive end Montez Sweat has returned to practice, a significant development as the team prepares to face the Green Bay Packers on Sunday. Sweat had missed Wednesday’s practice due to an ankle issue, adding to the concerns about his availability given his existing shin injury.
According to defensive coordinator Eric Washington, Sweat participated in Thursday’s practice, although it was in a limited capacity. This is a positive sign for the Bears, who are looking to end their ten-game losing streak against the Packers. Sweat’s presence is crucial, as he has been a key component of the Bears’ defense since his acquisition in a mid-season trade from the Washington Commanders in 2023.
Sweat’s impact on the Bears’ defense cannot be overstated. In 17 games with the Bears, he has accumulated 9.5 sacks, nine tackles for loss, and 21 quarterback hits. His absence was felt in Week 9 when he missed a game against the Arizona Cardinals due to his shin injury, and the defense gave up the most points of the season.
The Bears are hopeful that Sweat will be able to practice again on Friday and potentially participate fully in Sunday’s game. His return would significantly enhance the team’s chances of pulling off an upset against the Packers, who boast a dynamic offense.
In addition to Sweat’s return, safety Tarvarius Moore also saw an upgrade in his practice participation, moving from not practicing on Wednesday to a limited practice on Thursday. This is encouraging news for the Bears, who are dealing with several injuries as they approach the critical matchup against the Packers.
