CF Montréal Suffer Heavy Defeat Against New England Revolution
On Saturday evening, CF Montréal faced a disappointing defeat at home, losing 5-0 to the New England Revolution, which is currently ranked as the lowest team in the Eastern Conference. The performance of the Bleu-blanc-noir was described as pitiful, and the event culminated in jeers from the crowd.
Despite having a two-week break, CF Montréal entered the match unprepared, allowing the Revolution to score within the first seven minutes through Bobby Wood. Wood would go on to double the lead for the visitors due to a defensive error from the home team, resulting in a goal that left the score at 2-0 by the 37th minute.
Throughout the match, CF Montréal struggled to effectively connect with their forwards, particularly Josef Martínez, who remained isolated. While Caden Clark showed promise in his debut for the team, it was not enough to change the tide of the game.
The second half saw further goals from the Revolution, with Nick Lima scoring the third at the 71st minute, prompting many fans to leave the stadium. Giacomo Vrioni added the fourth goal shortly after, followed by Luca Langoni, who completed the rout with the fifth goal in the 83rd minute.
This defeat marked a significant low point for CF Montréal, as it stands as their worst home loss in MLS history. The team missed an opportunity to temporarily surpass Atlanta United in the standings, remaining just one point behind.
Samuel Piette played his 200th match for CF Montréal, becoming the second player in the team’s history to reach this milestone. New signings Caden Clark and Jahkeele Marshall-Rutty made their debuts but could not change the outcome of the match.
