Ja Morant Praises Jaren Jackson Jr.’s All-NBA Level Performance
MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Memphis Grizzlies star Ja Morant has no doubts about teammate Jaren Jackson Jr.’s All-Star credentials, calling the forward’s performance this season “All-NBA level.” Jackson, a key figure in the Grizzlies’ resurgence, is averaging team highs of 22.8 points, 1.4 steals, and 1.6 blocks per game, while also contributing 6.2 rebounds and 1.8 made 3-pointers per contest.
Jackson’s versatility has been on full display this season, as he continues to excel on both ends of the court. Despite being overlooked in fan voting for the 2025 Western Conference All-Star starters, Jackson’s impact on the Grizzlies’ success has been undeniable. The team currently sits in third place in the West with a 31-16 record, thanks in large part to Jackson’s contributions.
“Think it’s no question,” Morant told reporters regarding Jackson’s All-Star candidacy. “He’s been playing at an All-NBA level. I’m pushing for him to be an All-Star. He absolutely deserves it.”
Jackson, who was named the Western Conference Player of the Week last week, has been a model of consistency. He has played in all but two games this season, a testament to his improved durability and conditioning. “Stay healthy and do what we’ve been doing,” Jackson said when asked about the keys to the Grizzlies’ success. “We always had the right mentality, right stuff going on.”
Jackson’s unique skill set has also caught the attention of opponents. Known primarily for his defensive prowess—he won the NBA Defensive Player of the Year award in 2023—Jackson has expanded his offensive repertoire this season. He has become a threat from beyond the arc and has developed a knack for scoring with his left hand, even in traffic. “Just don’t force anything,” Jackson said of his approach. “Let it come to me normally. Get off the ball because it’ll come back.”
Grizzlies coach Taylor Jenkins credited Jackson’s growth to his increased role in the team’s offense. “We’ve put him in more of a playmaker, decision-maker role,” Jenkins said. “He has better awareness of his teammates and the spacing on the court.”
Jackson’s stellar play has not only boosted the Grizzlies’ playoff hopes but also positioned him for a potential supermax contract extension. If he earns All-NBA honors this season, Jackson could sign a deal worth up to $345 million over five years, ensuring his long-term future in Memphis.
As the Grizzlies continue their push for a championship, Jackson remains focused on the bigger picture. “The city hasn’t seen nothing like that before,” he said. “If you’re the ones to do it, then that’s great.”
