Morocco Upsets U.S. to Reach FIFA U-20 World Cup Semifinals

RANCAGUA, Chile – Morocco‘s U-20 soccer team made history on Sunday by defeating the United States 3-1 in the quarterfinals of the FIFA U-20 World Cup. The victory propels Morocco into the semifinals, where they will compete for a chance to reach the final.
The match, held at Estadio El Teniente, saw Morocco take the lead in the 31st minute. The goal came after U.S. goalkeeper Adam Beaudry mishandled the ball, allowing Othmane Maamma to set up Yassir Zabiri for the score.
However, the U.S. bounced back just before halftime. Cole Campbell converted a penalty kick in the 45+6 minute, leveling the score at 1-1 after a video review confirmed the foul.
The second half began with more drama as Morocco regained the lead in the 66th minute. Defender Joshua Wynder inadvertently scored an own goal, putting the Leones del Atlas ahead 2-1.
In the 87th minute, Gessime Yassine sealed the win with Morocco’s third goal after another mistake from Beaudry, who failed to clear the ball effectively.
Morocco’s coach, Mohamed Ouahbi, expressed pride in his team’s performance. They will face the winner of the match between France and Norway in the semifinals.
Meanwhile, in the other semifinal, Argentina will take on Colombia as both teams vie for a spot in the final.
