Mumbai Indians’ Luke Wood Sets Unwanted Record in IPL Match
Mumbai Indians pacer Luke Wood faced a tough outing as he set an unwelcome record in the Indian Premier League (IPL) match against Delhi Capitals. Playing at the iconic Arun Jaitley Stadium, the left-arm fast bowler conceded a total of 68 runs in his four overs, marking the most runs given away by a Mumbai Indians bowler in IPL history.
The previous record stood with South African bowler Kwena Maphaka, who had conceded 66 runs in four overs against Sunrisers Hyderabad earlier in this season of the IPL. Wood, who had come in as a replacement for the injured Australian paceman Jason Behrendorff, found it challenging to contain the batters from Delhi Capitals.
Wood’s performance highlighted the struggle he faced on the field, as Delhi Capitals’ batsmen took advantage of the bowling attack. The English cricketer’s figures surpassed the previous high set by Maphaka, making it a forgettable outing for the pacer.
Some past instances of high runs conceded by Mumbai Indians bowlers include Lasith Malinga‘s 58 runs against Kings XI Punjab in 2017 and Daniel Sams‘ 57 runs against Delhi Capitals in 2022. However, Wood’s record-breaking figures against Delhi Capitals now hold the top spot in the franchise’s history.
