Mumbai Indians Secure Spot in IPL 2025 Final with Win Over Gujarat Titans

NEW CHANDIGARH, India — The Mumbai Indians defeated the Gujarat Titans by 20 runs in the IPL 2025 Eliminator on May 30, setting the stage for their advancement to the final.
Mumbai posted an impressive total of 228 runs for five wickets, led by Rohit Sharma’s explosive 81 off 50 balls. Jonny Bairstow contributed a solid 47 runs while Suryakumar Yadav added 33 runs to aid the team’s total.
In response, the Titans managed a total of 208 runs for six wickets, with Sai Sudharsan top-scoring with 80 runs. Washington Sundar supported with 48 runs, but Mumbai’s depth in hitting proved decisive.
The match featured 17 sixes from Mumbai compared to just eight from Gujarat. This hitting prowess kept the Titans’ chase just out of reach, despite favorable conditions due to dew making chasing easier late in the game.
One key performance came from Jasprit Bumrah, who not only claimed a single wicket but also delivered two crucial overs that shaped the outcome. His effective bowling kept the run rate in check, especially in the last few overs where the Titans needed 36 runs from 12 balls.
MI’s innings started explosively, thanks in part to Bairstow, who hit a 22-ball 47 in his debut for the franchise. Rohit’s innings was highlighted by his calculated use of sweeps against the Titans’ spinners.
The pitch in New Chandigarh provided a different challenge than the previous one, showing even bounce that favored batsmen. Though Gujarat had potential early breakthroughs, they couldn’t capitalize on missed chances against Rohit, who was dropped twice early in his innings.
As the match progressed, MI clearly established their dominance, marked by a sustained frequency of six-hitting that escalated in the final overs, finishing with a flurry of boundaries.
The Titans were unable to recover after losing early wickets including Sai Sudharsan to an impressive delivery from a new MI bowler. Despite some powerful hitting from Washington, MI’s discipline in the final overs sealed the victory.
Following this win, the Mumbai Indians will face off against the Royal Challengers Bangalore in the final, giving them a chance to add another trophy to their collection.
