Musetti Withdraws from Barcelona Open Due to Injury

Barcelona, Spain — Italian tennis star Lorenzo Musetti has withdrawn from the Barcelona Open after suffering a right thigh injury on Sunday. Musetti, who was the eighth seed in the tournament, experienced symptoms of the injury during his final match against Spain’s Carlos Alcaraz, who won in three sets.
During the deciding set, Musetti struggled to move effectively and required treatment from an ATP physiotherapist. In his post-match comments, Musetti reflected on the match, stating, “I don’t want to make excuses today. Carlos probably deserved to win. But what was disappointing was not being able to showcase my game until the last point. That’s it. However, I will take a week now, I will not go to Barcelona, and I will play in Madrid. I hope to be at 100% there.”
Musetti’s performance in Monte Carlo was noteworthy, as he reached the finals, which contributed to his current season record of 12-5, according to the Infosys ATP Win/Loss Index. Musetti is set to reach a career-high ranking of 11 in the PIF ATP Rankings on Monday.
Following his withdrawal, Musetti dropped from the fourth seed position to ninth in the Barcelona Open draw. Consequently, a qualifier or lucky loser will now fill the vacant fourth seed spot.
