Basketball Goat Debate Mychal Thompson

LOS ANGELES, Calif. — Mychal Thompson, former NBA player and current commentator, shared his perspective on the ongoing debate about the greatest basketball players of all time during a recent appearance on SiriusXM’s NBA Radio.

Thompson stated, “If you say Jordan’s the greatest, you say LeBron, even Kobe — you’re not a nut, you’re not crazy to think that way. But to me, yeah, Kareem [Abdul-Jabbar] is way too often overlooked.” His comments come as basketball fans frequently discuss the legacy of players like Michael Jordan, LeBron James, and Kobe Bryant, while often neglecting Kareem’s contributions and records.

Thompson pointed out that players such as Kareem and Wilt Chamberlain rarely enter GOAT conversations. “When the GOAT conversation comes up, you’re right — only LeBron and Michael Jordan are mentioned. Kareem’s never mentioned. Not even Wilt Chamberlain,” he noted.

In a separate discussion about the NBA season, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander accomplished a notable milestone, surpassing Michael Jordan’s 69-game scoring streak. On Saturday, he scored 20 points in a game against the Houston Rockets, contributing to a historic achievement as the first player since the 1960s to have a 70-game scoring streak. Gilgeous-Alexander finished the game with 22 points, though the Oklahoma City Thunder fell to the Rockets, ending their 11-game winning streak.

Wilt Chamberlain currently holds the record for the longest scoring streak, achieved during the 1961-62 and 1963-64 seasons, reaching 80 games. Oscar Robertson follows closely behind with a 76-game streak.

In another engaging segment of the radio show, basketball analyst Pablo Torre addressed rumors about LeBron James’ attendance at a memorial service. Torre confirmed with sources, including producer Ron Basile, that there was no directive from James to remain off-camera during the event, stating, “The off-camera thing is b****.”u00a0

As Thompson and other commentators voice their opinions on player legacies and records, the basketball community continues to appreciate the achievements of current and former stars, while also sparking discussions about the game’s greats.
