Mykel Williams Set to Become First-Round NFL Draft Pick

ATHENS, Ga. — Mykel Williams, a standout defensive end from the University of Georgia, is poised to be selected in the first round of the 2025 NFL Draft, which kicks off on Thursday night. The 6-foot-5, 265-pound athlete has drawn comparisons to former first overall pick Travon Walker due to his size and play style.
Despite battling a severe ankle injury early in the season, Williams managed to maintain his draft stock, demonstrating resilience and talent. He stated, “It’s my work ethic, and the intensity and focus that I have with it. Georgia has prepared me for the NFL by making me a pro.”
Williams showcased his potential by recording five sacks during the 2024 season, with four of those occurring in two games against Texas, including a standout performance that drew praise from Longhorns coach Steve Sarkisian. “He’s obviously an elite pass rusher that can put stress on your tackles and put stress on your quarterback,” Sarkisian noted.
Georgia head coach Kirby Smart recognized Williams’ determination to play through injuries, emphasizing his value to the team: “He had a tremendous work ethic. He’s been really level-headed. He doesn’t let things get him down.”
Williams has attracted attention from several NFL teams, including the Atlanta Falcons, who hosted him for a pre-draft visit. The Falcons hold the 15th overall pick and are in need of a versatile edge rusher like Williams.
<p“My college career has made me tougher and more resilient,” Williams added, reflecting on his journey. As the NFL Draft approaches, the anticipation continues to build for the former Bulldog, who is eager to start his professional career.
