Myles McLaughlin Eyes National Rushing Records Amid Rising Fame
Knox, Indiana — Myles McLaughlin, a standout running back at Knox High School, is turning heads with his record-breaking performance this season. Recently, former New England Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski highlighted McLaughlin’s skills on the FOX NFL Sunday show, ‘Up and Adams.’ Gronkowski analyzed footage of McLaughlin, who plays quarterback in a run-heavy offensive system, and praised his staggering statistics.
This season, McLaughlin has rushed for an incredible 4,396 yards, bringing his career total to 11,389 yards. As Knox prepares for a Class 3A regional home game against Angola, McLaughlin is on the verge of breaking significant high school rushing records. Gronkowski noted, “What I really like about this kid is his lateral movement, the way he is able to see the field. He doesn’t slow down. When he makes a cut, it is actually at full speed, which is kind of ridiculous.”
Gronkowski compared McLaughlin’s playing style to that of experienced athletes in college and the NFL, describing him as “reckless out there” for his evasion skills. He also commented on the potential for McLaughlin to surpass Derrick Henry’s long-standing career rushing record, stating, “To be able to break Derrick Henry’s record is absolutely absurd. I thought that one would never be broken.”
McLaughlin has already set the Indiana career rushing record, previously held by Charlie Spegal, who rushed for 10,867 yards. Now, he is closing in on the national single-season record of 4,704 yards, set by Dominick Bragalone in 2014. Averaging 366.3 rushing yards per game, McLaughlin needs just 309 more yards to break this record.
Derrick Henry, the Baltimore Ravens’ star running back, has also shown his support for McLaughlin, expressing his hopes for the young player to surpass his own career rushing record of 12,124 yards. Henry told Adams, “I hope McLaughlin breaks my record.” If Knox continues to succeed, McLaughlin could compete in up to three more games, including the potential for the state championship at Lucas Oil Stadium.
“He’s a beast,” Gronkowski added, wishing McLaughlin luck in achieving these remarkable milestones. The growing attention towards McLaughlin reflects both his athletic talent and the exceptional nature of his season, as he strives for further accomplishments on the field.
