Myles Turner Reflects on a Decade with the Pacers

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. — Myles Turner, center for the Indiana Pacers, is celebrating a milestone that few players reach in the National Basketball Association: ten years with one franchise. Turner recently shared his reflections on his journey from a rookie to a seasoned player in an article for the Players’ Tribune.
To commemorate a decade in the league, Turner’s friends and family threw him a surprise party while he was at home in Dallas last off-season. “It was amazing. But as the night went on, I felt a bittersweet twinge—what exactly were we celebrating?” Turner recalled in his piece. He expressed concerns about not being an All-Star or having championship wins to his name.
Over the years, Turner has experienced ups and downs, from playoff appearances to trade rumors. “There was a period when I felt lost, facing doubts and trade speculations,” he said. “But turning to my support system helped me through the darkest times, including my mom and dad, who’ve always believed in me.”
Turner has found new motivation and success after the Pacers acquired point guard Tyrese Haliburton, which he cites as a pivotal moment in his career. “Now, I feel like I have the support to thrive,” he said, highlighting Haliburton’s facilitating abilities.
As the Pacers head into the Eastern Conference Semifinals with a 2-0 lead over the Cavaliers, Turner’s revitalized mindset mirrors the team’s resurgence. He feels a newfound energy as they work toward a potential championship, emphasizing the importance of their collective journey. “This team is special; we’re excited to show everyone what we can do,” he stated.
Looking back at the ten years, Turner is thankful for the fans, his teammates, and the community in Indianapolis. He sees the emotional connection he has built over the years and is eager to continue growing with the franchise he calls home. “I love basketball and I love this city,” Turner concluded.
