The Nagaland State Lottery continues to capture the attention of many with its scheduled draws and significant prize offerings. According to updates shared on October 8, 2024, the lottery is held thrice a day at 1 pm, 6 pm, and 8 pm, allowing participants multiple chances to win substantial rewards. The first prize for each draw is set at an impressive Rs 1 crore.

In addition to the first prize, the Nagaland Lottery awards several other prizes as part of its daily draws. These include a second prize of Rs 9,000, a third prize of Rs 450, a fourth prize of Rs 250, and a fifth prize of either Rs 120 or Rs 1,200, depending on the specific draw. There is also a consolation prize of Rs 1,000 awarded to selected participants.

The Nagaland State Lottery was established in 1972 under the supervision of the state’s Finance Department, with its headquarters at P.R. Hill Junction in Kohima. Over the decades, the lottery has been a critical source of revenue for the state government. The state allows the sale of lottery tickets not just in Nagaland but also in other Indian states where lotteries are legalized, including West Bengal, Kerala, and Maharashtra, among others.

Notably, the Nagaland Lottery operates within the legal frameworks provided by the Government of India, which stipulates certain tax obligations for winners. As per Section 194B of the Income-tax Act, 1961, prize money exceeding Rs 10,000 is subjected to tax deductions at source (TDS), including additional surcharges and educational cess where applicable.

Participants are advised to claim their winnings within thirty days by submitting the requisite claim forms and identification documents. Claims exceeding Rs 10,000 are processed through the Nagaland State lotteries office, ensuring transparency and legality in awarding the prizes.

As the lottery remains a popular venture for many, it is vital to underscore the importance of responsible play. As noted by Zee News, while the lottery offers substantial prizes, participation should be approached with caution to prevent potential addiction. Thus, the publication insists that information provided is purely for dissemination purposes and not as an endorsement of lottery activities.
