Napoli Forward Victor Osimhen Undergoes Doping Test at Africa Cup of Nations
Napoli forward Victor Osimhen has recently undergone a random doping test conducted by the anti-doping department. Contrary to rumors, the test occurred after Nigeria‘s 1-0 victory against Guinea-Bissau in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament, not after the match against Cameroon.
The Nigerian international played a significant role in the game against Cameroon, providing an assist to Ademola Lookman for Nigeria’s first goal. However, it was after the Guinea-Bissau match that Osimhen and two other players from Nigeria, Simon Moses of FC Nantes and William Troost-Ekong, were subjected to the random dope tests.
Random tests are standard procedures in sports, especially for players with enhanced energy levels that may raise suspicions of substance use. It’s important to note that Osimhen is not the only player involved in this tournament who has undergone such tests. Two Cameroonian players also experienced similar tests.
Looking ahead, the Super Eagles, who won the AFCON in 2013, are set to face Angola in the quarterfinals of the 2023 tournament. The team aims to secure a positive outcome in order to advance to the semi-finals.
