Former AFL player and coach Nathan Buckley has made the difficult decision to sell a significant portion of his memorabilia collection following a tumultuous divorce settlement with his ex-wife, Tania Buckley.

The collection, valued at over $100,000, includes various items that span Buckley’s career, such as the coveted guernsey worn during the 2002 grand final match against Brisbane.

Auctioneer Charles Leski expressed the rarity of having such a comprehensive assortment of memorabilia available for sale, providing fans with a glimpse into Buckley’s journey through football from his early days with the Brisbane Bears to his time at Williamstown VFL.

Among the items up for sale are also gear from Buckley’s involvement in International Rules matches, offering enthusiasts a chance to own a piece of history connected to the iconic sportsman.

While Buckley has repurchased his 2003 Brownlow Medal and 2002 Norm Smith Medals, the rest of the collection remains on the market, awaiting potential buyers to acquire these unique items.

Leski highlighted the thoroughness of the catalog, noting that it serves as a comprehensive record of Buckley’s career both as a player and coach, capturing his contributions across various teams and competitions.

Although the sale of the memorabilia marks a bittersweet chapter for Buckley, it presents an opportunity for fans and collectors alike to own a piece of Australian football history that narrates the remarkable journey of a sporting legend.
