Naval Support Activity Annapolis on Lockdown Amid Bomb Threat Reports
ANNAPOLIS, Md. — The Naval Support Activity (NSA) Annapolis was placed on lockdown Friday afternoon following reports of a bomb threat and an active assailant. Authorities have advised personnel to shelter in place as law enforcement assesses the situation.
The lockdown affects Gates 1 and 8, as well as the Visitor Control Center, which has been closed. Officials are urging the public to avoid the area, and Route 2 near Route 648 in Annapolis has been shut down for a public safety response. The closure is near Jonas & Anne Catharine Green Park.
While the lockdown initially raised concerns about the nearby U.S. Naval Academy (USNA), officials clarified that the academy is not directly involved. However, the USNA has been closed to visitors as a precautionary measure. The academy is located across the Severn River from the NSA installation.
“We are working closely with law enforcement to ensure the safety of everyone on the base,” a spokesperson for Naval Support Activity Annapolis said in a statement. “Further updates will be provided as the situation develops.”
Local law enforcement agencies, including the Anne Arundel County Police Department, are on-site assisting with the investigation. The exact nature of the threat remains unclear, but authorities are treating it as a serious incident.
This is a developing story. Updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
