Naz Reid Returns to Roselle Catholic for Jersey Retirement Ceremony
ROSELLE, N.J. — Minnesota Timberwolves forward Naz Reid returned to his roots Thursday night as Roselle Catholic High School retired his No. 5 jersey in a ceremony before a Union County Conference basketball game. The Lions, ranked No. 5 in the NJ.com Top 20, defeated Westfield 67-58 in front of a packed crowd.
Reid, a 2018 graduate, played a pivotal role in establishing Roselle Catholic as a basketball powerhouse during his high school career. “I’m happy they chose 5,” Reid said, referring to his jersey number. “That’s my favorite number.” Despite wearing No. 11 in the NBA, Reid expressed pride in seeing his high school number immortalized.
The ceremony coincided with the Timberwolves’ East Coast trip, which includes a game against the New York Knicks on Friday. Reid reflected on his time at Roselle Catholic, recalling the camaraderie with his teammates and the routines of game days. “I get a chance to see all of those guys in one moment — one special moment,” he said.
Reid’s jersey retirement marks another milestone in his basketball journey, which began at Roselle Catholic and has taken him to the NBA. The school has continued its winning tradition, with the current team maintaining a strong position in state rankings.
