NBA All-Star Weekend 2025 Features New Format and Star-Studded Events

San Francisco, CA — The 2025 NBA All-Star Weekend has officially kicked off, bringing a fresh format and a lineup of stars to the San Francisco Bay Area for the first time since 2000. The three-day event features a new tournament-style All-Star Game format and a variety of competitions, culminating in the All-Star Game on Sunday night.
This year, the All-Star Game will see some significant changes. Teams will consist of three squads drafted by NBA legends Shaquille O'Neal, Charles Barkley, and Kenny Smith, each comprising eight players. The new structure includes Team Chris Mullin, the winner of the Rising Stars Challenge, alongside Team Kenny’s Young Stars and Team Chuck’s Global Stars.
The tournament will commence with semifinals, where Team Mullin — facing off against Team Kenny — competes for a spot in the championship bout against the winner of Team Chuck’s match against Team Shaq’s OGs. Each match will be played to 40 points, adding a dynamic edge to the competition.
Saturday’s festivities feature the Skills Challenge, 3-Point Contest, and the highly anticipated Slam Dunk Contest. Mac McClung will look to defend his title in the Dunk Contest against challengers Matas Buzelis, Stephon Castle, and Andre Jackson Jr. At the same time, Damian Lillard aims for his third consecutive title in the 3-Point Contest, joining the legendary ranks of Larry Bird and Craig Hodges if successful.
“The alterations to the All-Star Game format will revitalize the competition and keep fans engaged,” said NBA Commissioner Adam Silver during the annual press conference. The All-Star Weekend also includes participation from the men’s basketball programs at Morehouse College and Tuskegee University, which will compete in the fourth annual HBCU Classic.
