Nba Play In Tournament 2025

NEW YORK, NY — The NBA is gearing up for its 2025 Play-In Tournament, scheduled from April 15 to April 18, as teams on the playoff bubble vie for a chance at postseason glory. Following the conclusion of the regular season on April 13, eight franchises, four from each conference, will compete for the last two playoff spots.

The tournament was established as a regular feature by the NBA Board of Governors in July 2022, introducing new excitement and unpredictability into the postseason format. The four teams with the seventh to tenth best records in each conference will battle it out over the course of six games to determine the final playoff seeds.

In the initial matches, the seventh and eighth seeds will clash on April 15, while the ninth and tenth seeds will face off the following day. The winners of the 7-8 match will secure the No. 7 seed in their respective conference playoff bracket. Consequently, the losers of this game have a second chance: they will meet the winners of the 9-10 contest on April 18 for the chance to claim the No. 8 seed, eliminating the losing team from playoff contention.

This year’s play-in structure means that the seventh and eighth place teams can afford to lose once to maintain their playoff aspirations, an additional layer of strategy for coaches and players alike. The losers of the 9-10 match will be disqualified from playoff opportunities.

“This format introduces an exciting component that keeps fan interest alive right until the end of the regular season,” said NBA commissioner Adam Silver. “Teams that have fought through injuries and setbacks now have a second opportunity to showcase their talents on the postseason stage.”

All six games of the Play-In Tournament will be broadcast live on ESPN and TNT, promising to deliver high-stakes basketball action. Fans are eager to see which teams will rise to the occasion and secure their spot in the playoffs, starting April 19.

As of February 25, 2025, the playoff race is intensifying. In the Eastern Conference, teams like the Cleveland Cavaliers and Boston Celtics are solidifying their standings, while the Chicago Bulls and Brooklyn Nets fight for the crucial final slot. Meanwhile, the Western Conference remains wide open, with twelve teams within striking distance of qualifying.

As the season progresses and rosters stabilize following trade activity, the competition for these final playoff spots promises to deliver unprecedented drama and excitement.
