NBA Playoffs: Lillard Returns from Injury for Bucks Game 2

INDIANAPOLIS — Damian Lillard is set to make his return on Tuesday night as the Milwaukee Bucks prepare to face the Indiana Pacers in Game 2 of their playoff series. Lillard has spent the last month recovering from deep vein thrombosis in his right calf, but coach Doc Rivers confirmed that the nine-time All-Star will start.
Lillard’s return comes after the Pacers convincingly won the first game 117-98, in which the Bucks struggled, shooting just 24% from three-point range. Lillard expressed his determination to support his team in their quest for an NBA title. “I’m playing,” Lillard said after a morning shootaround. “I was uncertain at first about coming back, but I kept my body strong during recovery.”
Despite his optimism, Lillard acknowledged the challenges of returning after such a significant injury. He stated he had never returned so soon after such an absence from play and was uncertain of his performance level. Rivers noted he will monitor Lillard for any signs of fatigue during the game.
The guard has not played since March 18. Initially reported with right leg muscle soreness, his situation escalated when he was diagnosed with a blood clotting disorder, typically requiring months of recovery. Team officials announced his availability on social media after he was previously listed as questionable.
Giannis Antetokounmpo, the two-time MVP, expressed excitement for Lillard’s return. He hopes Lillard can elevate the team’s performance as they attempt to overcome the Pacers. “He is one of the best players in the league. Hopefully, whenever he’s ready, he can help us win games,” Antetokounmpo said.
Lillard also reflected on his return: “I wanted to get my body used to the game conditions again after missing so much time. The playoffs are intense, but I need to ease back into it.” As the Bucks look to even the series, Lillard’s contribution will be crucial in their efforts against the Pacers.
