NBA Postpones Bucks-Pelicans Game Due to Winter Storm in New Orleans
NEW ORLEANS (AP) — The NBA postponed Wednesday night’s game between the Milwaukee Bucks and the New Orleans Pelicans due to hazardous winter weather conditions in New Orleans. A severe winter storm left roads icy and forced the closure of major highways, making travel unsafe.
The Bucks arrived in New Orleans on Monday, a day earlier than usual, in anticipation of the storm. However, temperatures remained in the 30s on Wednesday, and surface roads throughout the city were coated in ice. Authorities closed many main highways in the metro area, and schools and businesses remained shut.
The game was scheduled to take place at the 18,000-seat Smoothie King Center in downtown New Orleans. The Bucks are set to play in Miami on Thursday, but it remains unclear whether they will be able to fly out of New Orleans in time. Louis Armstrong International Airport canceled all commercial departures on Wednesday due to the weather.
The Pelicans, meanwhile, are scheduled to play in Memphis on Friday night. The NBA has not yet announced a rescheduled date for the postponed game.
New Orleans, a subtropical city, lacks the infrastructure to handle significant winter weather, including snow-clearing equipment. This has made the storm’s impact particularly disruptive for residents and visitors alike.
