NBA Star Gilgeous-Alexander Gifts Jersey to Young Fan After 35-Point Game
PORTLAND, Ore. — Oklahoma City Thunder guard Shai Gilgeous-Alexander delivered a memorable moment for a young fan during Sunday’s game against the Portland Trail Blazers at Moda Center. After scoring 35 points in a dominant performance, Gilgeous-Alexander fulfilled a 12-year-old fan’s request by gifting him his game-worn jersey.
The fan, celebrating his birthday, had asked Gilgeous-Alexander for the jersey during the game. The NBA star responded, “Anything for you,” and made good on his promise after the Thunder’s victory. Gilgeous-Alexander approached the fan, removed his jersey, and autographed it on the fan’s back before handing it over.
“It was a special moment,” Gilgeous-Alexander said postgame. “The kid was so excited, and it reminded me of why I love this game. Giving back to the fans, especially the young ones, means a lot to me.”
The young fan, already wearing Gilgeous-Alexander’s City Edition jersey, added the Association Edition jersey to his collection. Video of the interaction showed the fan jumping with joy and thanking the Thunder star, who responded with a fist bump.
Gilgeous-Alexander’s generosity came amid another stellar performance. The 25-year-old guard is having an MVP-caliber season, averaging a career-high 32.1 points per game for the league-leading Thunder. Sunday’s game marked his ninth 30-plus point performance in January alone.
“Shai’s not just an incredible player; he’s an incredible person,” Thunder head coach Mark Daigneault said. “Moments like these show his character and how much he values the fans who support us.”
The gesture quickly went viral on social media, with fans praising Gilgeous-Alexander for his kindness. The Thunder improved to 32-13 with the win, maintaining their position atop the Western Conference standings.
